SUSTAINIBLITY & INOVATION

IMG_1885.JPG

Faced with another area where it is difficult to keep natural grass alive. Preserving natural turfgrass under concert stages is a challenging task even for a professional groundskeeper! The natural turfgrass they are responsible for is subject to no light for days, has to hold weight of a concert stage and has lots of set up and tear down traffic it has to endure. Basically the plant has no way to produce energy (photosynthesis) and is placed under weight which creates a really tough environment for the plant survive. When changing a baseball field into a concert stage and back to a baseball field creates a unique opportunity for innovation. What if they was something that had grow lights integrated into a platform that could hold weight the stage and withstand traffic and keep the turfgrass growing? Would it work to keep the grass alive and preserve playing field as it was before the event? The answer is in the picture above. The LED_Turf_Tiles_ did preserve the natural turfgrass playing field for 5 days at a Taylor Swift concert in Houston Texas home of the Houston Astros.

The LED_Turf_Shield™ is a Game Changer! It provides artificial sunlight to the natural grass surface while covered by concert stages, keeping photosynthesis and other natural process continuing during the event.  By keeping the natural process going playing fields are safer after concerts and maximizes the facilities usage. RGT was awarded the Sports Turf Managers Association Innovative award for keeping players safer after non-sporting events and reducing site disturbance.

Did you know?

Operations professional's are fascinated by this "one factor" that affects this environmental outcome.

This "factor" is light! RGT products are designed to optimize the use of light. Even the locking system is transparent. RGT's product are LED_Turf_Shield_, Flat-Back_Turf_Shield_, Pedestrian_Turf_Shield_, Pedestrian_Turf_Tile_ and Flat-Back_Turf_Tile_.  They allow sunlight through when is there is enough sunlight to keep photosynthesis going. When there is not enough sunlight due to structures the lighted product LED_Turf_Shield_ is able to produce photosynthetic light to keep the grass growing. By providing light to the natural grass field it is able to keep the turf alive in the some of the most challenging situations! Not only is light important but, operationally efficacy is important to have quick "set changes", the modular tiles can be installed quickly ~333 SF per man hour. Research and Development has been invested into perfecting this modular event system. For example, the LED_Turf_Shield_ has added computers over the years giving more control and production design flexibility.  We serve many industries and see how we can help your operation.

Made In The Shade!

The Green House Effect Is In Effect!

We learned above about how shade and pressure on turfgrass can effect quality. Now how about a hot sunny summer day when sunlight leads to "turf burn". The photo below shows how covers placed at various times of the day can effect turfgrass quality. RGT's LED product didn't allow too much sunlight through and provide shade to keep the turfgrass cool enough to survive the heat of the day.

Attention to details

RGT didn't stop there. Another area where natural grass was struggling to survive was under cable ramps. Cable ramps were not designed to keep grass alive under them. RGT designed cable ramps that are turf friendly.  See the before and after above.
